Uncharted: The Lost Legacy for PS4: Game Review

Created in association with Naughty Dog and Sony Interactive Entertainment, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is the action-adventure video game, where the main protagonists are ex-mercenary Nadine Ross and Sam Drake the brother of Nathan Drake, the latter doesn’t have a presence in the game.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Team And Developers

The development of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy began after the success of Uncharted 4 in May 2016, and for the game and creative directors staff was appropriately selected Kurt Margenau and Shaun Escayg. They both had a great desire and enthusiasm for the further development of a game sequel. The project team was the same as for Uncharted 4.

The trailer of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy was released in April 2017, it is noteworthy to mention that users who would order the game could also receive bonus games, for example Jack and Daxter: Precursory Legacy for PlayStation 4. The Uncharted: Lost Legacy was released on August 22 2017 in North America.

Initially Shaun Escayg wanted Nathan Drake as the main protagonist for the game, but later he changed his mind, thinking that it will be additional decision. The candidate characters for protagonsit role, where Charlie Cutter, Cassie (Nathan’s daughter), Sam Drake and Victor Sullivan. Eventually, team selected both Chloe Frazer and Nadine Rose from previous games Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 4. Later, it was predetermined that the length of the game will be the same as Left Behind’s, but during the process of development, the team realized that it will be even larger than they estimated: over 10 hours. Chloe and Nadine were respectively voiced by Claudia Black and Laura Bailey. The faces and performances of actors were used for modeling and animating the characters. The history of entire game evolved around Chloe, because team members found that she had an interesting moral type, according to the fact that she was interested in finding not only the artifacts, but also exploring the history of the Tusk of Ganesh, because it had some references to her family.

Writers had also changed some characteristics of Chloe by making her more impromptu and dominant figure in contrast to the previous games. Plus they found that Chloe should have a partner, who will support her on entire game. The antagonist of the game is Asav, who was portrayed by Usman Ally. The character is based on medical surgeon Jose Manuel Mireles, whom Escayg saw in documentary film called “Cartel Land”. The script was written by Scherr and Escayg, the difference between Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and previous games was concentration on the region, philosophy and culture. While researching the writers focused on Hinduism and other surrounding mythologies. Escayg thought that the small scope of the game will give more opportunities to penetrate into characters personalities and their stories.

The Bad

  • Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is incredibly repetitive.
  • The shooting system and nemesis system is utterly terrible.
  • Stealth Mode is very bad.
  • The characters don’t engage in meaningful ways.
  • The villain is a stereotype.

The Good

  • The landscapes and exploration is interesting enough.
  • Uncharted does well concerns history and locales
  • Environments are well-developed

According to the fact that Uncharted 4 had limited open areas, because of the short schedule, Naughty Dog updated the schedule for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy for avoiding the same problem. The team was obsessed with the divinity and geography of India. Fighting mechanisms were also updated, Chloe was fighting more professional rather than Nathan.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy received mainly positive reviews from Metacritic aggregator, by earning score 84 out of 100.
